What we started with
Two bathrooms in a 40-year-old Surrey home. The homeowners wanted both redone, and they needed the house to keep working while it happened.
What we did
We ran the job in two phases, upstairs first, so only one bathroom was ever out of action.
- Upstairs bathroom: a new custom shaker vanity with a stone countertop, new large-format floor tile and new tile around the soaker tub. The existing shower and toilet stayed.
- Lower bathroom: a new shower pan with semi-frameless glass doors, new floor tile and tile baseboards, a new custom vanity with a stone countertop, a new toilet and fresh paint. The existing shower wall tile stayed.
We coordinated the tile setter, cabinet maker, countertop fabricator and painter so each trade arrived when the room was ready for them.
What we found and how we handled it
Once the lower bathroom was opened up, there was no proper backing behind the bottom row of wall tile. We installed moisture-resistant tile backer board before the tile setter started, so the new tile went onto a sound base instead of over the problem.
How we handled the schedule
Partway through, the homeowners had houseguests coming to stay. We finished the upstairs bathroom first, paused the lower bathroom while their guests were in the house, and came back to complete it once they had left. Changes and additions along the way were folded into the plan as they came up.
How long it took
Both bathrooms were completed over the summer of 2026, in two phases.
How it turned out
Two bright, easy-to-clean bathrooms with matching white shaker cabinetry and stone countertops, finished without the household ever losing its only bathroom.
